Crispy on the Outside: The Love that Dare Not Speak Its Name

I have followed this string of recent debates. There are some people who absolutely hate cilantro. Julia Child, my idol, is one of them. I like the controversial herb and can't imagine Vietnamese food without it, especially Pho.

I can't imagine eating Tex-Mex without cilantro in the mix...pico de gallo would just be a weak salsa...

I once had a some Vietnamese chicken soup made with cilantro and I've longed for it ever since. Unfortunately for me, the place closed down.

I used to think that my love of cilantro was borderline unhealthy. Thank you for the validation.

I gotta say, I personally can't stand cilantro. I think it has a horrible, soapy flavour, and it's so strong it tends to overpower everything else in the dish. At my last restaurant, we put cilantro in (or on!) damn near everything, and it used to drive me crazy. So much delicious-looking food made to taste like nothing so much as that most evil of herbs. ;-)
